I learned guitar in Junior High, self taught, three chords at a time. In High School I joined a band that needed a bass player because the previous player graduated.
I spent $40 on my first bass guitar, it was Japanese. I bought it from a starving college student in Iowa Falls. Just before graduation a band named "Fair Weather" was formed. We played together about three years, then I retired for about 27 years.
I didn't even pick up a bass guitar during that time (sometimes it shows). Then I met the future "Retro" band one drunken Friday night in a farmhouse garage. From there I auditioned, much to my surprise, for "Retro". I was recruited, and was informed I had to learn 45 songs in six weeks for a New Years Eve gig that "Retro" had already booked. (I still don't know all the songs)
From that band "Loose Neutral" was born. I really love playing with this band even though I am the oldest and get the least respect.
But one thing is for sure.....I am thee best looking Bass player in the band!! |
